A Portal into the Wisdom of Imagination and the Body
While dreams reveal the language of the unconscious during sleep, active imagination allows us to enter into dialogue with these inner images while awake.
Depth psychotherapy invites us to listen not only to thoughts, but also to imagination, sensation, and embodied experience. The psyche expresses itself through images, movement, and felt experience just as much as through words.
My work integrates Jungian analysis with active imagination and somatic awareness, creating space for unconscious material to emerge in living form. Depending on your needs and interests, we may engage in practices that allow inner experience to become visible, embodied, and meaningful.
“I therefore took up a dream-image or an association of the patient’s, and, with this as a point of departure, set him the task of elaborating or developing his theme by giving free rein to his fantasy. This according to individual taste and talent, could be done in any number of ways, dramatic, dialectic, visual, acoustic, or in the form of dancing, painting, drawing, or modeling.”
— C. G. Jung
Active imagination is a central method in Jungian psychology. It involves turning inward and allowing images, emotions, sensations, and inner figures to emerge spontaneously, while remaining consciously present and reflective. Jung emphasized the importance of relating to these inner experiences while maintaining awareness.
Rather than analyzing experience from a distance, we enter into a living relationship with what arises from the unconscious. Through creative engagement—drawing, writing, movement, sound, sandplay, or symbolic dialogue—inner material becomes visible and embodied.
Active imagination allows unconscious material to unfold in ways that support psychological integration, creativity, and transformation. My work with expressive arts, sandplay, authentic movement, and somatic awareness is deeply grounded in these principles.
How We Use Jungian Active Imagination
In our sessions, we may work through reflective dialogue, or we may deepen into direct experience. You might explore a dream image, emotion, memory, bodily sensation, or intuition that arises in the moment. From this place of inner listening, imagination and body awareness guide the process.
At times, expressive practices may support this exploration. Drawing, writing, movement, sound, or sandplay can give form to inner experience, allowing images to unfold and reveal their meaning through creative engagement. This process deepens contact with the psyche and supports the integration of unconscious material.
A Living Process of Transformation
Whether we are speaking together, exploring dreams, engaging imagination, or listening to the wisdom of the body, the intention of our work is the same:
- To support healing
- To facilitate growth and transformation
- To help you live with greater meaning, vitality, and psychological well-being
Through Jungian analysis, dreamwork, active imagination, and embodied awareness, we cultivate an ongoing relationship with the deeper life of the psyche—the source of creativity, insight, and authentic becoming.
“You must give birth to your images.
They are the future waiting to be born.”— Rainer Maria Rilke
